Learn Chinese at Tsinghua University - Both nationally and internationally ranked as one of the top universities in China, Tsinghua is always battling with Beijing University for the first position in the national university league table. Established in 1911 on an imperial garden by the US from funds received from China from the Boxer Rebellion, it was initially a school for students to prepare for studying in the US and in 1925 started its research institute on Chinese study.
Being at the top of an immense number of universities in China, Tsinghua's acceptance rate for its graduate and postgraduate programs for Chinese is extremely low, being one of the hardest universities for Chinese to go to. It is also renowned for having the most distinguished guest speakers in the world, including personalities such as Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, Hank Paulson, etc.
The department of Chinese language has comprehensive courses, combining listening, speaking and reading and writing classes together with extracurricular lessons. Teachers here are all graduates in teaching Chinese as a foreign language from the top schools in China, including of course Tsinghua, BLCU and Beijing University.
Upon completing a language course here you will receive an official certificate from the university. There are also optional lessons that prepare you not only to learn Chinese at Tsinghua University but also for the national Chinese Language examination HSK (han yu shui ping kao shi, meaning Chinese Language Level Examination). If you score the required HSK score you will be able to undertake a degree of postgraduate degree in this university, one of the most valued degrees one could hope to obtain in China. Please note that requirements to take a Chinese graduate and/or postgraduate degree in Tsinghua University are much lower for foreigners than Chinese.
